For people with diabetes, exercise is like medicine!
The latest research shows that physical activity not only strengthens your heart and helps you lose weight, but regular exercise can actually slow the aging process on a cellular level and potentially add years to your life!
Having advised hundreds of patients with diabetes, we created a list of the easiest exercises you can do.
Walking
By walking every day for 30 minutes, people with diabetes can improve their blood sugar control, improve their heart health, and control their weight. If you can’t walk for 30 minutes straight, try walking for 10 minutes three times a day.
Swimming
Swimming is a fun activity that’s easy on the joints. Swimming increases insulin sensitivity, which helps you manage your blood sugar levels. It can also reduce your risk of heart disease, and can help you maintain a healthy weight.
Zumba
Zumba is another fun activity that doesn’t feel like exercise. Zumba is a total body workout that mixes low intensity and high-intensity moves in a dance party atmosphere.
Yoga
Not only does yoga help improve your blood sugar levels, but it also reduces stress, improves balance, and elevates your mood.
Strength Training
Adding strength training at least twice a week to your exercise regimen can lead to better blood sugar control and a reduced risk of complications.
Remember, being active is a cheap way of treating yourself! Just be sure to speak with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine to make sure it is safe for you!
